EU-PORTRAItS supports European social dialogue committee for port sector in the definition of trainning needs

Last 20th of May EU-PORTRAItS Project Coordinator Dr. Maria Boile had a meeting with the secretariats of the European Social Dialogue Committee for the Port Sector (SDC) at the ESPO premises in Brussels.

The purpose of the meeting was, on one hand, to identify issues of importance to the SDC, which the EUPORTRAItS project could potentially provide support on, and on the other hand, to set the ground for close cooperation between EU-PORTRAItS and the EU Ports Social Dialogue.

Among others, some of the key issues suggested by the SDC include training needs related to the evolution of the industry (new risks and new professional needs), the identification of harmful situations in container handling (i.e. fumigated, overweight, badly stowed, toxic/radioactive containers, lashing/unlashing, terminal traffic, etc.) and actions that need to be taken to improve relevant operations.

During the meeting that EU-PORTRAItS partners will have in Valencia, Spain, on 5th of June 2014 they will discuss, among other issues, the above mentioned SDC priorities and how the project may assist the SDC in addressing them.
