Thessaloniki (Greece) hosted last week the fourth meeting of the EU-PORTRAItS project (European Port Workers Training Scheme). The meeting, which was held on 30th and 31st October 2014, was organized by CERTH/HIT - Centre for Research and Technology Hellas/Hellenic Institute of Transport. It was attended by all project partner representatives and the European Commission Project Officers, Mr. Christos Pipitsoulis and Ms. Ioana Statu.
The first day was devoted to an update on the meetings held with representatives of the European Social Dialogue Committee (SDC) in the port sector, the most recent one of which was held on 28th October in Brussels. The EU-PORTRAItS project partners discussed how to best support the priorities of the Social Dialogue partners on issues related to port worker training, health and safety and the impacts of the evolution of the ports sector.
The second day was dedicated to project administrative and financial issues, as well as a review on progress of project activities and next steps to be taken. During the meeting, the preliminary findings on national training schemes for port workers were discussed, as well as how to link the project with other EU initiatives and how to extend the research to other EU countries.
EU-PORTRAITS project is funded by the Seventh Framework Program for Research and Development of the European Union (FP7).
