Founded in 1999, Jacobs University Bremen is a highly selective, private and independent institution for the advancement of education and research, registered as a not-for-profit organization. In the School of Engineering and Sciences, a prominent major is "International Logistics Engineering and Management". To support this studying programme, many workgroup specialising different core components of logistics were established such as maritime logistics, global production logistics, and systems management.
Core competence of research and development in the workgroup Maritime Logistics, chaired by Prof. Jens Froese, is deep knowledge of business processes in transport, focus on waterborne transport and technologies to increase productivity, reliability, sustainability and working conditions but also to develop equipment, modules and systems. They range from ships via ports and terminals to information and communication technologies. Training and education concept using advanced training technologies such as blended learning are developed and offered for both academic and industry.
